Coming to the naming convention, as these are Intel's third generation CPUs therefore the numbers start from 3, the next 3 digits are the actual processor number example underlined 3960x.
Similar is for the rest of the processors, seeing the 960 number I feel that they will even launch a CPU like 990x i.e 3990x, now that is a real cool number.
